💡 Diagnostic Integration at a Glance
When an IDEXX-connected lab order is completed on the Treatment Sheet, the following will happen:
- A new IDEXX Chart document is created automatically with a status of “To Review”.
- Once the Chart document is opened and reviewed, the request is initiated by clicking “Order”.
- If this is an In-House request, clicking “Order” triggers a request to your In-House IDEXX machine(s). If this is a Reference Lab request, clicking “Order” provides a link within the Chart document to easily print the IDEXX requisition form. The status for both In-House and Reference Lab requests is then updated to “Requested”.
- Once results are available for In-House and Reference Lab requests, the status of the Chart document is updated to ‘Received’ and results can be viewed by clicking the orange “View Results” icon.
📓 Please Note: To set up a new IDEXX integration with Instinct, please contact us at support@instinct.vet. Once integrated with Instinct, laboratory orders are managed by your hospital administrator team.
⚙ Getting Started
Users must have the admin_integrations Permission added to their User Role to manage their Idexx VetConnect credentials.

Once Instinct Support has notified you that your IDEXX integration is ready, you will then need to add your credentials to the IDEXX integration in the ‘Integration’ Admin section.

Clicking Add Credentials will bring up a screen to enter your IDEXX VetConnect username and password. Once saved, the button will change to Activate and clicking that button allows you to start ordering IDEXX integrated laboratory treatments!

🔬 Scheduling and Completing IDEXX Laboratory Treatments
You can schedule and complete laboratory treatments like any other treatment in Instinct. IDEXX specific treatments display a diagnostics icon on both the Order tab and line item on the TX screen as shown below. While the diagnostics icon will not display if ordered as a One-Off, you can still complete One-Offs for IDEXX treatments.

🚨 Test Tube Icon not displaying when ordering in the Treatment Order form? If the Test Tube Icon is not appearing next to the Idexx product name in the Treatment Order form, the product has not been mapped to the Idexx Integration. Please reach out to support@instinct.vet to have the product mapped! Don’t forget to include the product PIMS ID, Product Label and if an Idexx Reference Lab test, the Idexx test code.
Once the treatment is completed, the Order History screen will display a Review Lab Form button. Selecting this button opens the order form within the chart document panel to the right.

Or, you can navigate to the order form from the Chart screen.

Clicking on Notes opens a popup to edit the technician name, collection date, previous reference #, and any order notes (order notes are only available for Reference Labs).

If this is an In-House request, clicking Order triggers a request to your In-House IDEXX machine(s). If this is a Reference Lab request, clicking Order initiates the IDEXX requisition form within the Chart document to easily print and send out with your samples. The Order button must be clicked to send the order to IDEXX.
📓 Please Note: Sometimes the Chart will be generated with a Created status first, however it will automatically update to To Review once the IDEXX API receives it.
Once the Lab Form is ordered, View Results will display in the Order History screen if the IDEXX report document is in a Requested or Received status.

From the Chart screen, you’ll see the Chart document as a Requested status.

If the lab document is a Reference Lab, a requisition View Form button will display (this button does not display for In-House tests). Selecting the View Form button automatically downloads and opens the requisition form for printing to include with the blood sample going out to IDEXX.

🧪 Viewing Laboratory Results
To view laboratory results in the Order History, click the View Results button. To view results when the status of the Chart document displays Received, simply click on the Chart document.
The IDEXX results are accessed by clicking the View Results test tube icon under Attachments on the right side of the screen.

Some results may come back from IDEXX at different intervals. Each time we receive new results from IDEXX, the attachment is updated. The PDF will always display the most recently returned results. At the bottom of the screen, Results Updated will also reflect the time the results were most recently updated.
🚨 IMPORTANT NOTE: In-House and Reference Lab diagnostics will not yet send a ‘Completed’ notification so it will be up to each doctor to determine when the results are complete.

In addition to the View Results icon, you can also Download Results as a PDF. Clicking this Attachment automatically downloads and opens the results as a PDF.

✍Editing Lab Integration Chart Document Names
Chart Document Names can be edited by clicking on the Chart document to open up the document on the right – side of the screen. Hover over and click on the Chart document name to start editing.

When done with editing, click on the orange checkmark to save.
🚫 Void and Undo Void
Attachments within the Lab Integration Chart Document:
Void and Undo Void is allowed within the Lab Integration Chart document using the 3-dot menu next to the Attachment. However, this only Voids the Attachment within Instinct. If IDEXX lab results need to be cancelled, you will still need to log into your IDEXX VetConnect Plus interface and cancel them. To undo a Void, simply click Undo Void.

Lab Integration Chart Document
If a Lab Integration Chart document is created for the wrong patient or a test that is no longer needed, use the 3-dot menu to the left of the Chart Name to select Void.

Once Void is selected, a reason for voiding the document needs to be entered to continue.

Once the document is Voided, it will be greyed out and can be filtered from the list of current Chart Documents. To Undo the Void, simply use the 3-dot menu to the left of the Chart Name and select Undo Void.
📓 Please Note: A future version of this IDEXX integration will further integrate with rVet Sharing (Shareville), Comm Log Attachments, and printing patient records. Until then, we recommend that you Download Results as a PDF to share with rVets and owners when needed.
