🔒 Permissions
Users will need to have the manage_tax_exempt permission added to a role in order to enable or remove an Account’s Tax Exempt status.

Without the manage_tax_exempt permission, users will be able to see the toggle but it will not allow them to enable or remove the Account’s Tax Exempt status.

➕ Enabling Tax Exempt Status
To mark an Account as being Tax Exempt, enter the Account edit modal and toggle Tax Exempt ON.

A confirmation box will appear to alert you that the Tax Exempt status will be enabled for any open or future Invoices.

❌ Removing Tax Exempt Status
To remove the Tax Exempt status on an Account, enter the Account edit modal and toggle Tax Exempt OFF.

A confirmation box will appear to alert you that Taxes will be applied to any open or future Invoices.

💡 Important Note: Please refer to your local, state, and federal laws to determine if an organization is recognized as a Tax Exempt entity.
💵 Invoice
When viewing the Invoice screen, instead of seeing an amount under the TAXES line, Instinct will display TAXES EXEMPT.

Tax Exempt status will also print out on the Invoice PDF.

⚠ Account Merges, Patient Merges, Patient Transfers
Account Merges:
- When merging Account A into Account B, the account will only reflect the tax exempt status of Account B. You can manually turn the tax exempt toggle on/off after merging an account, if needed.
- Invoices will reflect the tax exempt status of the account it was associated with at the time of invoice closure. Closed invoices associated with Account A will retain the tax exempt status after merge. Any open and future invoices will take on the tax exempt status of Account B after the merge.
Patient Merges:
- If a patient is merged into another patient attached to a different account, the patient’s invoices will reflect the tax exempt status based on which account the patient was associated with at the time of invoice creation.
- Invoices created pre-merge (open or closed) stay with the old account and use the old account’s tax exempt status. Any invoices created post-merge are associated with the new account and use the new account’s tax exempt status.
Patient Transfers:
- If a patient is transferred to another account, the patient’s invoices will reflect the tax exempt status based on which account the patient was associated with at the time of invoice creation.
- Invoices created pre-transfer (open or closed) stay with the old account and use the old account’s tax exempt status. Any invoices created post-transfer are associated with the new account and use the new account’s tax exempt status.
